Honourable Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa, Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, Honourable Jerry William Sila, Minister of Information Communication and Information Technology, Honourable Albert John Chalamila, Regional Commissioner of Dar es Salaam, Mr. Mohammed Kames Abdullah, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information Communication and Information Technology, Dr. Nkundwe Moses Mwasaga, Director General of the ICT Commission, distinguished guests.
First of all, I’m honoured to stand before you on behalf of Huawei Tanzania to deliver these remarks. I would like to thank the organisers for the invitation and the opportunity to be here among so many distinguished guests and leaders as we discuss the digitalization of this beautiful country.
Over the past few years, we have witnessed huge progress in Tanzania’s journey towards digitalization. On behalf of Huawei Tanzania, I would like to commend the Government of Tanzania and the leadership of Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for her vision of fostering innovation, inclusion, and sustainable development through digital technologies.
For over 15 years, Huawei has been privileged to be a partner in Tanzania’s digital transformation journey. Our contribution spans across various sectors, which have brought connectivity to millions of Tanzanians and bridged gaps, not only in cities but also in the most remote corners of this beautiful country.
Among many areas we can mention:
● We helped to upgrade Tanzania’s network from 2G to 3G, 4G, and even 5G.
● We helped to construct the National ICT Backbone, connecting all 26 regions and neighbouring countries.
● We provided high-speed network coverage on Mount Kilimanjaro together with TTCL.
● And most importantly, we launched the DigiTruck Program in collaboration with our partners. In February this year, we had the honour to present this program to the Honourable Prime Minister.
Today, the DigiTruck is already launched and operational, covering regions of Tanzania. More regions will be covered in the coming several years.
Additionally, Huawei has established 19 ICT Academies with universities and institutes, training over 6,000 students in ICT skills.
Honourable Prime Minister, as we look to the future, Huawei is determined to continue our work in supporting Tanzania’s digital transformation agenda. In light of that, please allow me to reflect on the powerful message you delivered at the recent United Nations General Assembly. You spoke about the need for urgent clean energy solutions, stressing that sustainable energy is not only essential for the environment but also for the development of our communities.
This call to action aligns well with Huawei’s mission: We believe that the rule of creativity must be paired with reliable and clean energy sources. In response to that, Huawei is excited to announce our Smart Village Initiative with the Rural Solar Power Microgrid Solution. This initiative aims to bring sustainable energy to the rural villages without power grid access. It will enable schools, clinics, and homes to stay connected and powered, creating digital livelihoods. This is where ICT and energy intersect to build sustainable power, connectivity, and digital services, ensuring that no one is left behind.
Honourable Prime Minister, to sum up, I would like to thank the Ministry of ICT and the ICT Commission for their outstanding cooperation in taking our common visions forward. Moreover Huawei is committed to the concept of 'In Tanzania, and For Tanzania' and will continue contributing to the development of Tanzania’s digital economy, ensuring that no one is left behind. As the famous African saying goes, ‘If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.’ So together, let’s digitalize Tanzania, heading to a bright future.
